Today, we decided to take a vacation day and drive to Chetumal, Mexico. 


                                                


Drive from Orange Walk


We passed through immigration, to leave Belize and then to enter Mexico, and then drove on to Chetumal, which is just about 10 or 15 minutes away from the border. It was a lovely drive and then it was nice to experience a big city! 




Our Spanish is limited but most of our interactions were food related so we were able to get by. Horace & Reymona dropped Nate and I off at a very nice seaside, seafood restaurant where we enjoyed two beers and shrimp ceviche. The ceviche was also made with snail and octopus! It was so fresh and so delicious. We had a lovely time sitting there looking out at the calm bay in front of us. 



Instead of salsa, they brought us a seafood dip.



Afterward they picked us up and we drove along the boardwalk, stopping several times to take pictures or to check out landmarks. Afterwards as it was getting dark we headed to the downtown area again and there is an area where they set up food trucks. This city really comes alive at night! We had a wonderful time walking around and seeing the sites and then purchased a little street food. Then we drove back to Orange Walk.

Horace & Reymona ordered this - a marquesita (A marquesita is a crepe, rolled like a taco, filled with caramel, condensed milk, jam, chocolate or edam cheese, also known as queso de bola.) They got Nutella and then its garnished with the grated cheese.


Cake - frozen with cookies and whipped cream and peach slices



Custom churros - one with Nutella and the one with goat's milk caramel (and yes my Spanish is good enough that I read that and said Nate get that)

 Monday, December 15     So the wake up call came at 4:00AM ... and the text messages saying that our flight to Atlanta was delayed came in at 4:02AM. Our flight was scheduled to leave Asheville at 6:30AM but it was now going to depart at 9:30AM. I quickly looked to see when our connecting flight to Belize would depart... We were going to have a 7 minute connection time. Obviously, not happening. Unless of course the Belize flight was also delayed. Do we go ahead to the airport or not? Yes. Let's see if we can get on another flight to Atlanta. We packed up and went to the lobby for a bag breakfast and to get on the shuttle. The night before, the temperature had been 11 degrees with a real feel of -6. No precipitation though, which meant our flight was either delayed because the previous flight hadn't arrived yet or because of mechanical problems.     This was the temperature at 6:30AM. What do we do, we preach

      Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and today we went out in service. Wednesday we went out all day and then on the other three days, we only went out in the mornings. Each day, we walked to the Kingdom Hall. We do have access to bicycles but Nate needs to clean them first so we have been walking. House for sale, no steps     For now, we are meeting with the Kriol brothers and sisters. We hope to do some days in the deaf ministry with the other need greater family that is here and to include some of the local friends.     We meet and then the CO puts us with a preaching partner. Then its to the territory. Half of the whole group will work in one area. You may walk to the territory or ride there and then walk house to house. Once you reach a house, you and your partner will call out to the house a greeting depending on the time of day (Morning! Afternoon!). Some houses are gated so you stand at the gate and call out.
