Just when you thought this week couldn't get any better...
Today we had a special guest star with us for our preaching day. J is a unbaptized deaf publisher here in the City. Since there isn't an ASL congregation here, he faithfully Zooms with the ASL Cong in Cayo. We have Zoomed with them and have been so impressed with his participation - he regularly comments several times during a meeting.
And today, he was getting to join us on our preaching day! We were also joined by another brother Omar and his fleshly sister, Bianka. The brother also Zooms with Cayo, primarily for the midweek meeting and then he attends a Kriol congregation with his family for the weekend meeting.
We met at the Kingdom Hall and then drove over to J's house. We got in the car with Omar & Bianka and Horace & Reymona took J in their car. Omar had previously been in the Belize City ASL Cong and so he had some return visits and knowledge of where some deaf worked or lived. We made a stop at a business where a deaf man works but he was out on a delivery. We then went by the market. Bianka was hungry and didn't know what to eat so she finally settled on meat pies. I said we haven't tried those yet, please get a few for us. There was a choice between beef and chicken and we chose beef.
Nate with a beef meat pie
As with most food items here, being served hot would improve things. The crust was good, the filling was a little runny and there wasn't a lot of meat in it. I don't know if we would have gotten them from another vendor, if they would have been better. As this was, Nate finished his and I did not. They were about the size of gas station pecan pies... you know those? That's how big they were. And they were warm, not cold, but not hot. *sigh
J with Reymona & Horace
After the market, we tried another one of Omar's return visits. This man was home! Omar & Nate signed with him and then later brought him out so he could meet Horace.

After this, we went to follow up on a lead we had gotten earlier in the week. We had been told that a deaf woman worked at a health clinic downtown. We drove there and parked in front of the of the former location of the school for the deaf, Stella Maris. Us sisters walked into the clinic and asked for the nurse. We were told that she had retired and that she herself wasn't deaf but had served as an interpreter for deaf patients. The man working there had her in his phone contacts so he dialed her and then handed his phone to Reymona so she could speak to the woman. (Who hands their personal cell to a stranger?!) The woman answered and so Reymona explained who we were and why we were calling. A fine witness was given.
First Subaru sighting!
BBQ tent and those shadows are us trying to cross the road!
Someone got BBQ chicken for lunch :-o
We had been into this grocery store earlier in the week - Brodie's. It's like a small scale Walmart - a combination grocery store, liquor store, pharmacy, lawn & garden, etc. For Belize, a supermarket seems to indicate this level of variety. When we had been in earlier, we had noticed this BBQ tent in front. For $11.50 BZD ($5.75 US), we got a leg & thigh, coleslaw, baked beans and a flour tortilla. For speedy purposes, meals are packaged and ready to go. So again, the food being hot would have improved it. But after a long morning, and running mainly on one meat pie each, we were ready to eat! The smoke flavor was there and the BBQ sauce wasn't too sweet.
After lunch, we took a break and went for a walk in a lovely park close by.
I just love this house!
Afterwards, we took J home. Horace & Reymona had some stops they wanted to make so Omar & Bianka drove us to the tourist area of Belize City, where the cruise ships let the tourists out at. The storm clouds had been rolling in and sure enough, just as we parked, the rain started. We took a few pictures by the lighthouse and then ran back to the car.
Our fantastic tour guides for the day!
Horace & Reymona were still out, so they took us by their uncle's art studio. He works primarily with wood and creates one of a kind pieces - mirrors, tables, etc. Then we met up with Horace & Reymona and drove back to our lodging.
