Thursday the 1st

 AKA Day 3

If you thought Tuesday's post was exciting, wait until you read today’s!

Today, since it was the holiday, there wasn’t a group that we were meeting with. But since so many deaf had the day off, we had made arrangements with many of them to stop by their homes today. One of our first stops was a deaf man we had met on Tuesday. The guys had made arrangements to call back on him this morning and Reymona and I had made arrangements with the deaf woman that had rode up to his house on a bicycle.

We got to the man’s house and Reymona and I got out and started walking over to the deaf woman’s apartment, across the street. I had texted her this morning but hadn’t heard back so we walked over to see if she was home. Along the way my phone rang and it was her calling to tell me that she had had to go into work. I asked her what time she got off and she said 4 o’clock. I said I’ll contact you around four.

So then we went back and Reymona and I shared Caleb and Sofia cartoon with the little girl of the deaf man. Meanwhile the guys had a nice chat with him. They had made a substantial playlist with points and scriptures from the first lesson in Enjoy Life Forever so they had modestly shown him two scriptures. He kept asking them to go onto the next thought! It was very exciting.

The deaf woman that I had met yesterday at the department store contacted me to let me know that she had not gone home to her village but that she had spent the night in the city. I asked if it would be all right that we stopped by where she was. She said yes and was it all right that she brought a friend? I said yes and said I’ll let you know when we’re on our way.

Horace called the deaf man whom we had met in the fabric store on Tuesday. If you remember, two deaf men work at the fabric store but only one had a phone. So Horace contacted the man to ask if we could stop meet somewhere today. We had tentatively arranged to do something with both men before work on Friday but again, since today was a holiday, we were taking the opportunity. The man apologized but said that he wasn’t available.

So then we went to check out a lead that we had gotten of a deaf boy. We went to a store that his parents owned and it turns out that the boy has Down's syndrome. He still uses sign language to communicate but not because of any hearing loss. From there I contacted the woman that I admitted the department store and we headed over to her house. She and her friend were waiting for us, another deaf woman and the four of us sat down at the table to talk. She had also called another deaf friend on the phone and that friend tied in on the video call. We talked and shared scriptures for an hour and a half (!) together. It was very encouraging. We had been in there so long that the guys began to wonder, so they came looking for us. We thanked to the ladies profusely for being so hospitable and we left, without taking a picture! I texted the lady later to tell her that we had forgotten and she said we will get together later.

It was after lunch time so we decided to go home for a little lunch and then try a few more contacts. We had heard of a deaf woman so we headed to the area. A neighbor directed us to her house, where we met her. Reymona and I asked her where a nearby deaf man lived and she said there’s a deaf man here! So the guys parked the car and came in as well. We met the woman, the man and the woman’s two children. We stayed for over an hour, each sharing the app and demonstrating a lesson how to prepare for a lesson in Enjoy Life Forever.

From there I contacted the woman that I had tried this morning but who had been at work, since now it was after 4:00. She said she was home and we could come on over. We were very close by so we stopped by and visited with her. She explained that she had downloaded the JW Library app but that everything was for hearing people. I showed her how to change the language and downloaded the Bible in sign language for her. I explained that now anytime she wanted to she could watch a little verse or two and feel positive. She was so excited, thankful and appreciative.

Lastly we decided to go by another deaf woman that we had met on Tuesday. She had told us that the only day her husband had off work was Sunday, however we were hopeful that today because of the holiday he would be home. They both were home. So again we had a nice chat with both of them and shared scriptures and took a picture. Neither one of them have phones but they do have access to Internet so hopefully something will work out.

It was almost dark so we headed home. We had met up with 9 different deaf people today!

Other photos from today....

Since today was New Year's Day, that means there were a LOT of fireworks last night. Where there's dogs & fireworks, then there is even more noise due to the dogs barking! And where there's a party, there's music. I think we finally fell asleep asleep after 4AM?!

That's 12:00 midnight

Not sure who wrote this on our calendar but I didn't party! :-p
